Guest posting!

So, I’m sure by now you know that Alison, hostess over at House of Hepworths is on some amazingly fantastic wish that was me road trip across America, for like a month!

Jealous much, yep I kinda am but as a fantastical consolation prize, I get to guest post over at HOH

My stint is tomorrow 1st July, be sure to pop over and check out all the great ideas that Alison has shared, and keep checking back as every day there are going to be some fantastic guest bloggers saying hi!

I'm gonna have a giveaway!

Last night I tipped 300 followers, omigawd, and then today another 1 joined the shindig!

So, I decided it’s time I gave a little something back to you guys so I’m gonna have a giveaway, what it will be I don’t actually know yet, but it will be AWESOME and I will send it anywhere!

Hopefully tomorrow I will have sorted it out, and will let you know what to do to enter, which as I don’t have either FB or Twitter won’t be too hard!

Have a great Thursday!

There's a boat in my bottle!

If you have kiddies who watch Disney Junior, chances are they love all things pirate / boat related.

My 2 are no exception. Which combined with our love of all things coastal naturally resulted in me making a boat in a bottle!

If you want to try this, make sure the kiddies are out the way, chances are you will swear and glue and sand will get EVERYWHERE!

To make one you need the following,
{I’d suggest you get everything together before you start}
Bottle
Drift wood
Bakers twine
Decorative Sand
Cocktail stick
2 eye hooks
Craft glue
Scrap fabric
Scissors
Tweezers
Pokey hole making thing

{.You want a piece of wood which will fit inside your bottle}

Take topper off the bottle and put some decorative sand in the bottle, not too much, enough to make a small layer once the bottle is placed on its side.

Using the pokey hole making thing, make a hole in the middle of your piece of drift wood, you want it big enough for the cocktail stick to sit in, but not to big that the tooth pick will wobble out.

Screw one eye hook in to each end of your piece of drift wood.

Tie one end of your bakers twine to the eye hook at the front of the boat.

Snip the cocktail stick, if required, to a length that it will stand up in the bottle once in place on the boat.
Loop the bakers twine around the top of the cocktail stick, with the stick wedged in the hole in the drift wood, and then thread the twine through the other eye hook. Pull tight, this lets you measure how much twine you need.

Cut a ‘sail’ out of the scrap fabric, I cut a triangle, covered it in glue and folded it round the cocktail stick, just underneath the twine at the top.

Cover the twine which will be in the bottle with craft glue, this will add some strength to it.

Put a small blob of glue into the hole on the drift wood, place the cocktail stick in the hole, then tip the stick forwards, towards the front of the ‘boat’.

GENTLY, insert the driftwood boat into the bottle; you need to put the front of the boat in first.
Using scissors or tweezers hold the boat in place, and GENTLY pull the excess twine back out the bottle, not to far!!!

Using another pair of scissors or tweezers, DON’T LET GO OF THE BOAT, re-insert the cocktail stick in to the hole in the boat, smoshing it in to the glue.

No photo of this part, I can't take photos whilst holding two pairs of scissors.

You need to hold it in place for a minute or so to prevent it from falling down.
Once its set, you can add some more sand if you wish.

Place a small blob of glue on the inside rim of the bottle, place the twine in the glue and cut the excess twine away.

Bung the stopper back in the bottle, and you’re done.

The boys have called it Bucky, I will have to make kiddie friendly ones in fizzy drink bottles!

My Tuesday Ten {almost}

Have you guys seen Tuesday Ten hosted by Stephanie over at Under the Table and Dreaming? If not you should check it out, a spot for you to just pop all those random little things which you don’t want to dedicate a whole post to.

{ONE}

The boys are at the stage where they don’t want to be in the buggy but walking too far is just too much for them, so I got a wagon!

You don’t see many here in the UK, I think I’ve only seen one other being used, no idea why they aren’t more popular; we all love it and we got loads of admiring glances and comments on it. Perhaps we can start a wagon revolution!!

Ethan looks right at home!
{TWO}

Despite having an award winning gardener granddad, I just need to look at a plant and it dies, so it was no surprise when the Jasmine plant which the hubsters mum bought for us when we moved in, seemed to shrivel up and die.
I blamed it on the snow and frost we had this past winter, and cut it back HARD, to like a few stumpy bits.
So you imagine my joy at seeing it grow to this over a few weeks.

A few more weeks and there will be flowers I’m sure.

{THREE & FOUR}

Summer’s here baby!!

The boys are in onesis, it’s so hot at night they don’t need pjs, but they need something to keep their nappies secure, so back to these. When I saw them last night I almost cried, reminded me that even though they are growing up fast, they will always be my baby boys.

That ice cream cone.

 Ahren LOVES it, the other night we had to go up at least 3 times because he was crying so much, why was he crying, his ice cream fell out his cot. He doesn’t even like ice cream!

{FIVE}

We were told Ethan may never speak, but thankfully the damage to his vocal chords hasn’t prevented his speech, he may grow up sounding like Barry White, not a bad thing really! Any hoo, the last few weeks have seen a huge improvement in his speech, but my favourite things he says;
“It’s cool mama” instead of thank you, how cool is that!?
And
“I’m fine mama” his response if I ask if he’s okay, love it!

{SIX}

The boys love jumping, on EVERYTHING, so we cashed in our Clubcard points and got them a trampoline for the garden, for FREE! Hurrah.

Now the boys can jump around like headless chickens all they like.

{SEVEN}

I admit it, I’m a cinnamon addict.

For some stupid reason I can’t even begin to process you can’t buy cinnamon products in the UK, well you can, but only about 3 things, what is wrong with the taste buds of this nation I will never know, But lucky for me American Sweets sells a whole bunch of American products they get imported in.

Once a month or so I order a naughty little bundle of goodies, and I’m crushin’ hard on these totally yummy and nutritious Pop Tarts at the moment, I don’t forget the hubster, he gets his Texas Pete Hot Sauce, a favourite from his Florida days, and the kiddos get their Cinnamon Bun Bites!

Not quite ten, but these are the little things I wanted to share, pop over to Stephanie’s blog and see what everyone else has to say.
Hope your all enjoying a great week!

{Edit}
Hubster wants me to clarify that the ice cream Ahren is so precious about is a plastic toy thing and that we don't send him to bed with an actual ice cream.

And apparently the photo of Ethan in {FIVE} makes him look like a drug addict or something, I would just like to clarify he is not! Some times he just looks REALLY sleepy!

Ikea side table to toddler dinner table!

We have been looking for a toddler table for our boys for a while, but they were either too expensive,
out of stock or just not what we wanted!

I remembered that we had a small coffee / side table in the loft which we had brought from Ikea for a few quid, hubby brought it down and with 2 small chairs we had a rather plain yet functional table for the boys.

I wanted to cheer it up a little, so after some sanding I gave it a few coats of Plasti-Kote in Baby Blue.

Using Microsoft clip art I gathered images which show food from A – Z, for U, I had to be a little imaginative and used an image of a cake and turned it upside down, upside down cake! Not sure they would ‘get’ ugli fruit!

I printed the images, cut them out leaving a small border, and used a small blob of varnish to adhere the images to the table. I decided to place them in alphabetical order, with an image of cutlery in each corner.

A few coats of varnish added to the top of the table ensure the images stay in place and protect the paint, and I have a fun 'new' table.

I wanted to make some 'flash' cards to be used at meal times, so,
.

using the images of the food items I made ABC cards, upper and lower case letter on one side and the relevant food on the other, these will be handy for teaching foods as well at the alphabet!

I’m so pleased with how it’s turned out, the table definitely looks better and the cards turned out better than I expected! Best of all, its cost us nothing, everything we had already, which has saved us about £70, woohoo!

Now can anyone tell me how to get a 2 year old boy to eat! Ethan loves his food and eats really well, Ahren on the other hand is going off EVERYTHING, even his favourites, I’m hoping this jazzed up table will make meal times a bit more interesting for him.

Just tinkering about!

I'm having a spring clean of my blog, so apologies if things look a little odd!

Hubster has been telling me off for having buttons which go over the side bar into the main body of the blog posts, so at the moment, buttons are at the bottom of the posts, and I’ve shoved everything else to only 1 side bar!

Everything should look pretty normal, so please humour me whilst I figure out how to make buttons smaller, centred and whatever else I need to do to make everything a little easier on the eye!

I’m wondering whether using a notebook rather than a proper grown up full sized screen makes any difference, ho hum, off to delete and tinker about with html code I have no understanding off!

Wish me luck!

Oh, and can I just mention, does anyone else find it odd that the spell checker here in blogger doesn't  recognise blogger or blog!

Our Summer Activities

As yesterday was officially the first day of summer I decided to jot down some ideas for activities we can do both indoors and outdoors, and some days out for when the hubster is off work.

I'm really good at writing lists, but even better at losing them! So I decided to make these a little harder to lose.

Using scrapbook paper and spray glue I covered a bingo clipboard, trimming off any excess paper.

I couldn't remove the clipy part, so was unable to cover the entire board, but a sticker, paper flowers and a few blobs of hot glue soon had everything covered.

I typed up and printed my 3 lists, leaving a space at the bottom of each one for additional ideas.

To help keep an eye as to what day it is and when we have things planned I attached a small calendar to the lower section of the clip board using some hot glue and a clip, I also added a cute pink brad.

So now we have no excuse not to have some kind of activity each day, the clipboard doesn't take up to much room but is just the right size not to be ignored!

I’m going to knock together some work sheets for the boys to work on whilst doing some of their activities, nothing to stressful, I will post these once complete.

Gone to the Beach

Technically you could call this a craft fail, but I don’t believe in them, you can always turn it round!

 This was meant to be a beach hut coat peg for my boys' room, but I  just wasn’t happy with it so carried on messing about until I ended up with this sweet ‘gone to the beach’ sign.

Using a scroll saw I cut out an outline of 4 beach huts lined up together.

I painted each hut a different colour.

Using masking tape, I taped off strips and painted the exposed areas.

Using hot glue, bakers twine and triangle pieces of paper I created bunting across the beach huts.

For the ‘gone to the’ letters I used some letters from my craft stash, and painted some wooden letters to spell out beach, I stuck these on with more hot glue.

I now have this cute sign

 which hopefully will be an accurate reflection of  how we spend our summer, but with Wimbledon starting this week, I’m going to dig out my wellies and umbrella!

Fathers Day Wordle Subway Art

Since my father died 10 years ago I find it difficult to get into the swing of Fathers Day, but with two sons of our own, I owe it to hubby to pull my socks up and get stuck in!

I’ve missed the postal dates for getting anything made up and delivered, but knew I wanted something personal, which is when I remembered a few months ago I had brought a few packages of printable canvas!

Hurrah!

I could make my own personal artyish gift for hubby.

I was thinking something along the lines of subway art would be nice, but haven’t got the patience for sorting out the layout and everything, which is where Wordle comes in! Wordle is this amazing free to use program where you can enter a bunch of words or even your blog url and it comes up with a kind of subway art piece.

Using Wordle, I entered words which I think best describe hubby since he became a daddy, these are just my observations of him during the highs and lows we have encountered since our sons were born.

I played around with layout, fonts and colour options until I was happy, to make sure it would fit on to my sheet of canvas I printed out a copy onto regular paper.

Once I was happy with it, I printed on to the sheet of canvas and let it dry.

Using spray glue I then covered the entire canvas in glue and placed my printed canvas on top.

After it had dried I cut away the excess canvas sheet. To hide the rough edges I wrapped a strip of ribbon around the sides of the canvas, using hot glue to keep in place.

I then used some fun summery yellow ric rac to add a border to the canvas, again using hot glue to secure.

It’s propped up on the fireplace; I wonder how long it will take hubby to notice!

I’m not ruining any surprise; I’m terrible at keeping secrets so there is no way I could keep this until Sunday!
